Toyota Key Fob Battery Replacement

If you find your Toyota Key Fob has stopped working, then you’re going to have to replace it. In order to deal with Toyota Key Fob battery replacement, you’re going to have to open the case.

With most newer Toyota models, this can be done by pulling out the hidden key and inserting it into a slot, ideally meant to open the case. On older Toyota models, you’ll be able to use a thin object to pry open the case when there is a noticeable notch on the case. Then, follow these instructions:

  1. Open your Toyota key fob with either your key (Newer Models), fingers, or a thin yet strong object at the designated notch or slot.
  2. After the case is wide open, gently lift its circuit board to reveal the battery.
  3. Take note of what kind of battery is present and how it sits in the case. Most Toyota models will use a CR2032 battery. These batteries are widely available in San Jose stores and online. You can buy them for under $5 too, depending on the brand and package size you purchase.
  4. Once you have your Toyota key fob battery replacement, place it inside of your key fob case and close it.
  5. Test out your Toyota key fob to ensure it’s working. If it doesn’t, open the case again and readjust the battery, making sure the connections are clean and they’re making contact with the battery. If the key fob still doesn’t work, you may need a Toyota key fob replacement.

Broken Toyota Key Fob

If, in contrast, you’ve broken your Toyota key fob, there’s some different replacement options. Depending on the damage, you might be able to get a Toyota key fob replacement at your local San Carlos Toyota service center. An on-site technician can cut you a new key and you’ll be able to continue using your existing key fob.

If the key fob case is broken but the electronics are still working, then you’ll be able to save money by ordering a replacement case. This also depends on how available the case is and your Toyota dealer. If however, it’s been exposed to water or more severe physical damage, you’re going to need a full Toyota key fob replacement.

Toyota Key Fob Replacement

Now, if your key fob is damaged without exception, you’ve lost it, or can’t find it, you’re going to need a Toyota Key Fob replacement. For Belmont drivers, the cost of a new Toyota Key Fob, the cost of a new replacement can be anywhere from $200 through $350.
